What is it that you want to do?

 Start a business, Get in Shape, Adopt a Healthier Life Style, Create a Non-Profit, Start a Blog? When you declare there is a project you want to embark on, what do you do?

Have you found that you can talk about it, you can plan it out, but taking the first step is sometimes the hardest part to seeing a project come into fruition?

Why is that? 

More times than not, the culprit is Fear.

Fear of Failure, Fear of Success, Fear of the Unknown, Fear of Responsibility, Fear of Greatness, Fear of Being Alone, Fear of Inadequacy  etc. The list really goes on and don’t we all know it!

But Guess What?

Fear is here to stay, so get used to it!

 The Fear Never Goes Away, So Feel The Fear and Do it Anyway!

      What do I mean Fear never goes away? I mean, even once you overcome the fear you feel today, there will be another fear that creeps up tomorrow. People tend to think, “If I can just get where Oprah is I will be confident and fearless”, but that is not the order of operations. You need to learn how to Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway, because you can research any person you deem successful and they will all report that they get scared before undertaking something new. The difference between them and people who allow fear to paralyze them is that they Get Started and take action in the face of their fears.

 Feel The Fear and do it Anyway

       I could write a whole book on how to “Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway”, however someone already did a long time ago. Susan Jeffers PhD. Wrote “Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway” in 1987 and that book is still oh, so relevant today. If you haven’t read this book, get it today, it’s life changing. Jeffers suggestion that by taking action you “make deposits in your Self-Esteem Bank” and the more action you take towards you goal, the more empowered you will feel.

 

You May Not Know How to Cross the Finish Line, but You Should Still Enter the Race

     Not knowing the outcome is no reason to stay in a state of non-action. The reality is we can plan all we want to, but things change, stuff happens and the future is uncertain. We only have control over the Present moment so use it to your advantage. Spring into action and let the momentum carry you through. 

By not moving you could be missing opportunities that await you.  The Universe is here to serve us and make our Highest Desires become realized, however by sitting stagnant we block the flow of blessings and resources the Universe has stored up for us.  We find ourselves, praying, meditating and drum circling to bring forth our blessings and think that’s all we have to do, however, as Anilia Areus at MotivatedSista.com writes “God/the Universe is aligning the resources needed to make your dream a reality. So when you stop moving forward, you’re delaying the realization for what you’ve been asking for”. Sending your request to the Universe is an essential step, but moving confidently towards your goal is just as essential.

 

Sometimes ‘Opportunity’ never comes a-knockin’

      Inaction could be keeping you from opportunities that await you, but the risk is even greater than that. Maybe there isn’t an opportunity just a phone call away or waiting for an email. No, sometimes it’s up to you to Create your opportunity.

Examine closely what you identify as your reasons for why you can’t start moving on your project. A lot of times you will find you are operating from an external locus of control.

A who?

Let me explain, we have two ways of processing the world around us through an internal locus of control or an external locus of control.

Those with an Internal Locus of Control believe that they are in charge of their lives and can influence the direction it takes. 

Those with an External Locus of Control believe that outside forces shape their destiny and feel powerless over their situation because outside forces and people have the power to determine the outcome of their lives.

To Which Group Do You Want To Belong?

When stated so plainly who wants to be in the latter group? However, so many times we find ourselves there. We blame the weather, what she said, what he thinks, the government, our last boss etc. We ALL do it, this isn’t a time to start beating yourself up, it’s time to recognize that sad song and change your tune immediately. Why? Because blaming outside circumstances does not serve you. When you dub yourself the captain of your ship, you then put yourself in a position of power. That way it won’t matter if ‘Opportunity’ comes a knockin’ or not because you will be making your own way and success will surely follow because you have decided it shall be so.

 It’s a process. Embrace that and watch your Dreams turn into Reality.

When you do “get started” and things don’t turn out the way you like, you can always give yourself credit for at least Starting and Taking Action. That says more about your character than anything. As long as you continue to Start even after the stops, nothing can get in between you and your Destiny.
