2) BABY STEPS
Great, so you have dreamed the impossible dream, squashed the ANTs dead in their tracks and made the agreement with yourself to allow yourself to Bloom Where You’re Planted, now what!?
How do you go from Dream or Goal, to actually making it happen? Answer:
Take Baby Steps. There are a thousand clichés that embody this idea.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day” – John Heywood
“It is better to take many small steps in the right direction than to make a great leap forward only to stumble backward.”- Old Chinese Proverb quotes
“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.” – Robert Louis Stevenson
“Victory is not won in miles but in inches. Win a little now, hold your ground, and later win a little more.” – Louis L’Amour
“Know what you want to do, hold the thought firmly, and do every day what should be done, and every sunset will see you that much nearer the goal.” – Elbert Hubbard
These are just a few examples of the same sentiment. Plant the seeds today, do the work you can today and soon all of those todays will add up to you living your Dream Life. Am I still sounding too “woo-woo”? Okay, here are ways to start taking baby steps today to ensure you will experience success on your own terms in the future.
A) Write down The Big Goal
B) Break The Big Goal into a Beginning, Middle & End sections. These sections will be what you feel you would need to do primarily to get started, what would be taken care of once you had those primary things started and what the final stage of achieving your goal would be, generally speaking.
C) Take each section (ex. Beginning) and break it down into small doable steps. Do the same for the Middle and End section. By doable I mean, actually activities you can title or measure. i.e. Exercise for 30 minutes everyday, paint a different room of the house each week etc.
D) Put it in a calendar. Now that you have bite-sized activities, start plugging them into a calendar, organizer or planner. This will allow you to state start dates and deadlines to accomplish each activity.
E) Remain flexible. Things will change. You may start knocking out those activities faster than you thought, or maybe you miscalculated how long other activities would take to achieve. By staying flexible you can constantly be tweaking and customizing your goals and your life.
F) Go for it! As Martin Luther King, Jr. said ” Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” The momentum of your success will carry you through.
