The fear of failure is something that you may have let run your life up until today.
We have been spending the past couple of weeks demystifying the smoke monster that is the perception of failure.
We’ve already discussed how failure is actually an illusion, that it’s simple math that you gain more than you lose from your experiences and that sometimes it’s a gift to you and the world when things don’t turn out the way you planned.
Today, we’re going to be discussing the last element you should consider before entering “victomville” and claiming your situation to be a failure.
It’s Only Over If You Give Up
In other words quite literally, you can never consider something a failure if you never stop striving for your goal. Isn’t that great news? That’s not a hard concept to grasp nor is it mired in metaphysics. This makes the smoke monster of failure go up in a puff of smoke in an instant.
“Fall 7 times get up 8” – Japanese Proverb and what I like to call the key to success.
Would you consider Thomas Edison a failure? The fact that I can throw that name out there and everyone knows who I am talking about illustrates how he is not a failure. The fact that I’m writing this right now from the illumination of a light bulb also indicates he’s not a failure. Did you know Edison “failed” over 1,000 times before he succeeded in making the light bulb? The neat thing about Edison is he knew that failure was just an illusion, he said “I have not failed. I have just found 1,000 ways that won’t work”, what a great attitude! Can you reflect on situations in your life that you deem a failure that really are just indicators of what doesn’t work for you. Now you know the kind of man you don’t need in your life, know you know the kind of people you don’t want to do business with, now you know an accountant should handle your money. Whatever it is, you didn’t fail, you’ve learned what doesn’t vibe with your way of life, and you’re that much more prepared to choose better in your next attempt. Just make sure there IS a next attempt.
Edison also said, “Many of life’s failures are men who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”, James Arthur Ray in the movie “The Secret” talks about how our hopes are like a little sprout just below the surface, we can’t see how much it’s growing underground, but when we give up, it dies never having broken through the surface. How do you know you’re not one attempt away from walking in your Destiny? How do you know your breakthrough isn’t just below the surface waiting on the right moment to come forth? If you never give up, you can never say you failed, you can just say you are currently manifesting your Dream, because that’s exactly what you are doing.
Don’t you feel relieved?
Moving forward, if the fear of failure has kept you bound from walking in your Destiny allow it no more! You now know that the illusion of failure is no more forceful than a monster made of smoke. We have now shone a light through that monster and put out the wind machines, the fear of failure no longer exists for Destiny Discoverers. We have learned it has everything to do with how you frame your circumstance and little to do with what is actually happening. Keep that in mind the next time you find yourself bemoaning events of the past, or shaking in your boots about what you want to attempt in the future. There is no such thing as Failure, only lessons to be learned, wisdom to be gained, treasured to be discovered and perseverance to be had.
Now it’s your turn
- What will you attempt now that you know Failure doesn’t exist?
- What in your past did you consider a failure that you can now reframe as a success?
