Hi friend,
So you may or may not know, but I volunteer my time, knowledge and expertise to an organization called Youth Business USA. It’s basically the business development work I did in Ecuador but with amazing Bay Area youth. P.S. Watch out because the are changing our world for the better, let me TELL YOU!! But that’s not what I’m writing to share with you today.
What I want to share with you today, is a message I sent to one of my my mentees. Because while these budding entrepreneurs are smart, driven and ambitious, what they’re finding is that the road to being your own boss can be rocky, lonely and so tough! #CanYouRelate
I find with them, more than doling out strategy, I’m dusting off my old pom – poms and serving as a motivator and a cheerleader to these young emerging business owners.
I’m telling you this because it’s not so different with my #girlboss clients either and it may be the same for you too. Yes, you know the strategies, yes you know what you should be doing, but some days it’s just HARD and you need someone in your corner telling you Yes.You.Can. Yes. You.Will. Yes, you ARE…enough, capable, able, on fire and made for this!
So in case you’re having a particularly challenging day, I’m sharing with you what I wrote to one of my mentees…in a text message nonetheless #TLDR
I hear you, I know it’s a challenge but you’re doing great, just keep that in mind. Reaching out and getting support is also the right thing to do.
A couple of things to keep in mind. You job is your investor. I know you wish you had more time, but try to focus on the blessing it is to have income to fund your dream. Once you’re a full time business owner you’ll be responsible for every penny coming in the door and sometimes when the road gets bumpy you will dream of the days you could just show up and get a check ? Trust! Just keep telling yourself this is a temporary situation and you’re setting yourself up for a lifetime of freedom and living your passion. You’re doing the hard stuff now, so you can have an easier time later. If it was easy everyone would do it. This is just chapter 1 of your success story, k?
On a strategic note, it sounds like you need to push your launch date back to give you some breathing room to execute your vision. There’s nothing wrong with that. You want to create something you’re proud of. You can do teasers and mentions in the meantime, but pick a new date and go from there.
Since your time is precious you may be able to get only one thing done in a day or maybe one completed task in a week! It may feel slow but when you look back over your month you would have made real progress and would have moved the needle forward. It doesn’t sound as fab as going super hard, but as you’ve experienced, going tooo hard and setting expectations too high leads to productivity paralysis and you’re left just stagnant, unmotivated and feeling deflated. No fun!
Take heart, this is the journey and what you’re experiencing is normal (though painful) we’ve all been there and it’s building you up to be the fierce business owner you’re destined to be.
If you need to rest take this weekend and rest, muse, vision and write out what you’d like to accomplish (maybe you already have). Send it to me and we can work backwards to create a feasible plan that works with your current schedule. Cool?
Sending you big hugs ? just stay the course and keep your head up! ???
I hated to have to say push back the launch and since we’re new to one another I didn’t want her to not like me, to be completely honest. However, I know my job as a coach is to tell you what you need to hear, even if you don’t like it (or me) as a result.
She took it well and is taking a more strategic, sustainable approach. I expect great things from her, she’s an amazing human being.
What I want YOU to take away is this:
1. If you’re feeling like things aren’t moving smoothly hopefully my words to my mentee will resonate with you too.
2. If you’re ready to leave your 9 to 5 without a plan, hang in there until you know what your exit strategy is (don’t worry, I can help you with this…)
3. If you’re already a working coach, and your clients aren’t getting the results they could, it might be because you’re wanting to be liked, and you’re not pushing them to operate at their highest potential. I know it feels confrontational, but just know, your job as their coach it is to hold them to be the best versions of themselves. If they could do it alone, they would have already. Right?
And if you’re in place of spinning your wheels, going in circles and have gone as far as you can go alone, book a time with me so we can explore how I can support you in getting to that next level.
I might not always say what you want to hear, but I always see the greatness in you and I’ve got your back 100 Grand!
Book your time if you’re ready and willing to be supported in stepping into your greatness. Spots fill up quick so if you’re ready, book your free session with me today!
You so got this,
